Tour A: Picnic in Conguillio National Park
We drive via Cunco and Melipeuco to the entrance-gate of Conguillio
National Park, one of Chile’s most beautiful parks. After the
registration we do a little hike to the waterfalls. Passing by
lava-fields, we admire lakes and lagoons with iridescent colors,
primeval forests, with 1000 years-old Araucaria- and other trees and
springs. According to your mood and physical conditions we go for more
hikes and consume then our picnic. After our return we have a rich
dinner at Adela y Helmut.
Tour B: Swimming and Kayaking in lake Colico
In Cunco we visit the archeological Museum. After Crossing the river
Allipen, we leave the paved road and reach the western shore of lake
Colico. Along the coast we take a narrow road which leads us between
rocks, trees and blooming bushes to Trafampulli-Beach. The shallow
water invites to bath or swim. You may rent kayaks, horses or bicycles
as well. Close to the shore we have picnic. We return by on the same
road. We reach Adela y Helmut in time for dinner.
Tour C: Wellness day in the thermal-baths Geometricas
Via Villarica we reach the lake Calafquén and following the shore to
Coñaripe. Leaving the asphalted road, we wind us up a narrow road
between forests and rocks, until we reach the thermal-baths. Here we
find some wooden houses with grass covered roofs and numerous clean
thermal pools, built directly in the rocks. The whole complex is
developed by wooden footbridges, over a river. An unforgettable
experience. Before we head back, we eat our snack. A quick city tour
shows us Villarica. Adela awaits us for dinner
Tour D: Climbing the Volcano Batea Mahuida in Argentinia by Jeep
Following the Allipen-Valley we reach the western slopes of the Andes
passing by Cunco and Melipeuco. The gravel-road winds up, following a
small valley to the pass. Passing by primeval forests and Araucarias we
reach the frontier-post Icalma, where we settle the visa formalities.
By our 4-WD car we climb the extinguished volcano Batea Mahuida. Up
there, we enjoy the beautiful outlook over 4 volcanoes, and a
lake-scenery. If you’re interested, we can hike around the crater-lake.
On the shore of one of three lakes (Moquehue, Aluminé and Icalma) we
take a rest and have a snack. Passing the frontiers, we have to take
care, getting another immigration-form of Chile. We close the day with
a great dinner at Adela y Helmut.
Tour E: To the pacific coast, following the river Toltén to Queule
Passing by Freire we drive through the potato-region of Teodoro-Schmidt
and Hualpin. After Nueva Toltén, Queule awaits us. By motorboat we do a
small trip along the bay. We visit the small fishing-harbor and the
mini fish-market. Heading over the mountain we have a wonderful outlook
on the bays of Queule and Mehuin. Provided the weather is good, we take
a sunbath at Mehuin-Beach. Most people don’t like swimming in the cold
pacific. There we find a place for having our picnic. We return late,
on highway 5 and San José de la Mariquina and have dinner at Adela y
Helmut.
Tour F: Shopping in Temuco. Did you buy all your souvenirs yet?
We head for Padre las Casas, passing rucas. From there, the Mapuche
drive their two-wheel horse carts to the markets of Temuco. In Temuco,
depending on the weather-conditions and your interests, we visit the
Mapuche-Museum, the Railway-Museum, and the Mercado-Municipal, one of
Chile’s most important handicraft-markets with many small restaurants.
In one of them, we have lunch. The nature reserve Cerro Ñielol offers a
splendid view over Temuco. Walking over the main square, with big
palm-trees and water-fountain, you may observe the busy town-centre. On
the vegetable- and fruit-market the local farmers offer their
agricultural production. Two times a week, you may participate in one
of the big cattle auctions. In Temuco you’ve got the possibility to buy
souvenirs, films and many other things on bargain-prices.
Tour G: To the pacific, Pto. Saavedra and Lake Budi
Passing by Temuco and Nuevo Imperial we arrive at Carahue. Many
steam-machines are exposed in an open-air museum. They served as motors
for harvesting- and other agricultural machines in the beginning of the
20th century. Along the river Imperial and across the coastal
mountains, we drive to the “loberia“, where we may see occasionally
sea-lions. The Pacific Ocean cut interesting shapes of the rocks at the
beach. We pass through the small fisher-town Puerto Saavedra and walk a
little bit on the black, sandy beach, close to Boca Budi. Only people,
who don’t mind the chilly water will have a swim in the pacific.
Crossing the peninsula Huapi, we can see many black-necked swans on the
lake Budi. Before returning, we have picnic. Along the other side of
the river Imperial, passing through Padre las Casas, we return, to have
dinner at Adela y Helmut.
Tour H: To the volcanic caves of Villarica and Pucón
We drive to Villarica passing through Radal. A small city tour shows us
the beach and the town-center. Leaving the asphalted road, passing by
many outlooks, we reach the volcanic caves and take a look inside.
Without a flashlight, you won’t even see your hands in front of Your
face. After having picnic, we drive down to Pucón, where we may take a
bath, go for a walk in the center and buy some wooden flowers, a
handicraft, which is only produced there. In the evening, we have
dinner at Adela y Helmut.
Tour I: Swimming in the thermal baths of Coñaripe
We reach lake Calafquén, passing by Villarica and follow the shore to
Coñaripe. From there, the gravel road crosses almost native primeval
forest. Our way, in between rocks and trees, winds up and down to lake
Pellaifa, where we find the hot springs. Clean pools are inviting to
swim, or just taking a bath. Close to the lake we have picnic. We
return on the same road. We reach Adela y Helmut in time for dinner.
Tour J: Bathing like in former times, in the thermal baths of Molulco
Following the Allipén-Valley, we pass through Cunco, visiting the
archeological museum and are getting closer to the western slopes of
the Andes. Leaving the asphalted road behind us, a good gravel leads us
to the mountains. We reach the thermal-site 24 km later. The owner
personally welcomes us and invites us to drive closer to the
thermal-springs. The simple construction with zinc and corrugated iron
shows us drastically the economical situation of the owners. The
rustic, but clean wooden tin is getting filled with thermal water. Now
we can warm us up us thoroughly. On the river shore we have picnic.
After returning we enjoy a rich meal at Adela y Helmut.
Tour K: Take a rustic bath in the thermal springs of Rio Blanco
Passing through Cunco, we drive South. After crossing the river Allipén
we leave the asphalted road and reach the western shore of lake Colico.
We continue our trip along the rocky coast and reach later on the lake
Carburgua. We have lovely outlooks on the volcano Villarica. We wind up
the narrow road, crossing rocks and almost native primeval forest,
until we arrive at the thermal baths. There we have a look at the
appearing of the hot water from the rocky soil. You may choose one of
the rustic outdoor-pools, depending on your temperature-desire, for
having a bath. There we have our picnic, before we turn back for having
dinner at Adela and Helmut.
Tour L: Rafting on the river Allipén
The clear water of the river Allipén comes from the Andes around the
volcano Llaima. At an easy reachable access close to Cunco, the
certified German Raft-Guide Helmut Schäfer starts his rafting
activities. In a short introduction every member of the crew receives
an instruction on how to obey the commands of the guide. You have to
use a good sun blocker! The most important matter for expert-guide
Helmut always is security, so the route is suitable for beginners in
rafting as well. More than 3 hours the beauties of nature are
presenting themselves from a point of view completely different.
Tour M: Climbing the active volcano Llaima with mountain-guides
Early in the morning you meet the certified mountain guides in Cunco,
where they distribute the mountain-equipment. A last check and you head
for the starting point of the tour. With the leading-guide in front,
and the security-guide on the rear, you climb upwards, crossing lava
and snowfields. You stop several times to regenerate yourself and for
taking photos. The Araucanian landscape with their scenery of volcanoes
and lakes to your feet, you have marvelous outlooks. From the edge of
the crater, you see in the eye of the giant. The descent doesn’t take
that much time, not only because Adela is waiting for you with a rich
dinner. Attention: The ascent is suitable only for our athletic guests
with good physical condition. Total trekking time is in between 6 and
10 hours. There are other trekking routes, with different attractions
and for several days as well.
Tour N: Discover Volcanoes, lakes and rivers by plane
The small airplane from the air club has seats for only 3 passengers.
With good weather conditions, we are organizing short-term impressing
charter-tours by plane. You may choose the routes as you request. After
take off in Temuco, we discover our first destination, the huge volcano
Llaima. During the flight we see small Mapuche settlements and big
farms, called “Fundos“ Meadows and cereal fields take turns with
forests. The “smoking“ volcano Llaima rises above the Andes, with 3125
m. Behind it is Conguillio-Park in one single view. From there we are
on target for the volcano Villarica and discover lake Colica, lake
Caburgua, the small lagoon of Huilipilun and the big lake Villarica. We
do a loop around the volcano Villarica with his 2840 m. Our pilot shows
us the fire on the bottom of the volcano, before we turn back to Temuco.
Tour Q: Special Four-wheel-tours
Not only for bad weather! Although its more fun with mud Experienced drivers (spanish-spoken) offer a rally-adventure quite different. They take You on rough roads, which are used normally by oxes towing lumber, to mountain-slopes, to stream-crossings, to waterfalls and to lakes. If You feel like driving by Yourself, the driver will pass You the steering-wheel for some meters through the mud.
We
also recommend inexpensive accommodations in other regions of Chile. If
you like, we may give you a hand with the reservation of boat trips or
flights to San-Rafael-Glacier or to Patagonia.
